The ARGONA project intended to demonstrate how participation and transparency link to the political and legal systems and how new approaches can be implemented in nuclear waste management programmes. Theoretical development were done and new approaches were tested. Decision-makers and stakeholders at national and local levels were involved in the project. ARGONA developed guidelines for the application of novel approaches to participation and transparency.
The ARGONA project, which is started in November 2006 and lasted for three years, had fourteen participating organizations from eight countries in Europe. It was coordinated by the Swedish Radiation Protection Authority and managed by Karita Research.
